About the Treatment

What Are
Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are FDA-approved injectable treatments that temporarily relax the muscles responsible for dynamic expression lines — the wrinkles that form when you smile, frown, squint, or raise your brows. When placed precisely, they smooth those lines without changing how your face moves or who you are.

At Body Balance Medical, all neurotoxin treatments are performed by Teresa Hernandez, MSN FNP-BC — a nurse practitioner with a clinical eye for anatomy and an approach built around natural, proportional results. The goal is always that you look like yourself — refreshed, not done.

We offer four formulations so Teresa can match the right product to your treatment area, muscle anatomy, and desired outcome. Every appointment begins with a thorough assessment, not a scripted protocol.

Four Products.
One Right Choice for You.

Teresa carries all four major FDA-approved neurotoxins and selects based on your anatomy, treatment area, and goals — not brand preference or availability.

OnabotulinumtoxinA · Allergan / Allē Rewards
Botox

The gold standard — decades of safety data, predictable results, and the most studied neurotoxin in the world. Botox is the benchmark every other formulation is compared against. Ideal for forehead lines, crow's feet, frown lines (the "11s"), and most first-time patients who want a proven starting point.

AbobotulinumtoxinA · Galderma / ASPIRE Rewards
Dysport

Known for its slightly wider diffusion pattern, Dysport is well-suited for larger treatment areas like the forehead where a softer, more distributed effect is desirable. It also has a faster onset than Botox for many patients — results often visible within 2–3 days — making it a strong choice before events or travel.

IncobotulinumtoxinA · Merz / Xperience+ Rewards
Xeomin

The "naked" neurotoxin — Xeomin contains no accessory proteins, which reduces the risk of antibody formation over time. This makes it an excellent option for patients who have developed resistance or diminishing results with other toxins, and for those who prefer a highly purified formulation.

For Men

"Bro-Tox" &
Men's Aesthetics

Botox Cosmetic — The One and Only. Courtesy of Allergan Aesthetics.

More men than ever are choosing neurotoxins to maintain a sharp, energized appearance — and to address functional concerns like jaw tension and hyperhidrosis. Teresa customizes every treatment to masculine anatomy and movement patterns. Natural results that don't announce themselves.

The goal is the same as it is for any patient: you should look like yourself on your best day, not like someone who has had something done.

Forehead & Frown Lines

The most requested male treatment — softening deep expression lines while maintaining natural movement and a strong, defined brow position.

Masseter / Jawline Slimming

Relax the jaw muscles to relieve grinding and clenching, reduce jaw tension, and refine the overall facial shape without surgery or recovery time.

Neck & Tech Neck

Smooth horizontal neck bands and vertical platysmal cords for a cleaner neckline — increasingly popular with men in professional and on-camera roles.

Hyperhidrosis

Neurotoxin injections to underarm or palm areas effectively reduce excessive sweating for 6+ months — a clinical use with strong patient satisfaction.

Teresa Hernandez

MSN, FNP-BC · Lead Injector · Biote-Certified · Body Balance Medical

Teresa Hernandez is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and Body Balance Medical's lead aesthetic injector. She brings a clinically grounded, artistically refined approach to every neurotoxin appointment — assessing facial anatomy, muscle dynamics, and individual goals before selecting a product or placing a single unit.

Her philosophy is straightforward: the best result is one that no one else notices. Results that look natural because they're precisely placed — not because they're minimal. Teresa treats patients across all genders, skin types, and aesthetic goals, and has a particular expertise in treating men's facial anatomy.

Teresa is also Biote-certified in hormone optimization, giving her a broader clinical lens on how aging, hormones, and aesthetics interact — an advantage patients at a true integrated practice like Body Balance Medical can access in a single plan.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I look frozen or unnatural? +

Not with proper technique and appropriate dosing. Teresa's approach prioritizes natural movement and facial balance — the goal is that you look refreshed, never overdone. "Frozen" results come from too many units placed too broadly. Precise placement and careful product selection produce results that most people around you will never identify as neurotoxin — they'll just think you look well-rested.

How long until I see results? +

Most patients notice softening within 3–5 days, with full results visible at 10–14 days. Dysport often works slightly faster than Botox — some patients see early effects within 2–3 days. Letybo and Xeomin typically follow a similar timeline to Botox. Your two-week follow-up assessment is when we evaluate final results and make any adjustments if needed.

How do I know which neurotoxin is right for me? +

Teresa makes that determination during your consultation based on your anatomy, treatment areas, treatment history, and what results you're trying to achieve. All four formulations are clinically effective — the differences are in onset speed, spread pattern, protein content, and how individual patients have responded historically. For first-time patients, Botox or Letybo are often the starting point. For patients who have developed resistance over time, Xeomin is typically the better choice. For larger areas like the forehead, Dysport's diffusion pattern often produces a more uniform result.

How often do I need treatments? +

Typically every 3–6 months, depending on the product, treatment area, and your individual metabolism. Many patients find that consistent treatment over time extends duration — as the treated muscles become conditioned to relaxing, results last longer and fewer units may be needed. Teresa will help you build a maintenance schedule that aligns with your goals and budget.

Is there downtime? +

Minimal to none. Minor redness, pinpoint marks, or mild swelling at injection sites typically resolve within hours. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, lying flat, and applying pressure to treated areas for 4 hours post-treatment. Most patients return to work and normal activities immediately. Bruising is possible but uncommon, and can be minimized by avoiding blood thinners before your appointment.

Can neurotoxins be combined with fillers or other treatments? +

Yes — and combining treatments is often where the most natural, comprehensive results come from. Neurotoxins address dynamic lines caused by muscle movement; dermal fillers restore volume and smooth static lines that remain at rest. Many patients receive both in the same appointment. Teresa will assess whether combination treatment makes sense for your goals and anatomy, and will never recommend more than what's clinically appropriate.
