The first two hours matter most.
Your teeth may look extra bright immediately after treatment. That's partly from mild, temporary dehydration, and the color typically settles to a natural white tone within a few days as your teeth rehydrate. Long-term results vary by patient and depend on your starting shade and habits like smoking or drinking dark beverages such as red wine, coffee, or tea.
