Chemical
Peels
Medical-grade SkinMedica chemical peels to improve skin tone, refine skin texture, and address specific skin concerns — performed by Ashiana Khar, Licensed Advanced Esthetician. Peel selection is determined after an in-person skin assessment.
How Chemical Peels
Improve Your Skin
A chemical peel applies a controlled acid solution to the skin to exfoliate the outermost layers, accelerate cell turnover, and reveal fresher, more even skin underneath. By removing the buildup of dead cells, peels also prompt the skin to produce new collagen — supporting long-term improvements in tone and texture.
At Body Balance Medical, Ashiana uses SkinMedica — a professional-grade line designed for predictable, clinical results when selected appropriately for the patient. Peel selection considers your skin type, medical history, sun exposure history, current products, and goals. Every treatment begins with a skin assessment.
Peels pair naturally with medical facials and can be sequenced alongside treatments like microneedling as part of a broader skin-quality plan.
A note on skin tone and safety. Individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from medium-to-deep peels. This is one of the reasons professional evaluation before any peel is essential — peel strength is matched to your skin, not applied by default.

Chemical peels are broadly classified by depth. Our SkinMedica options sit in the superficial-to-light-medium range — effective for most common concerns without the recovery commitment of deeper treatments.
AHA-based exfoliation targeting the epidermis. Little to no downtime. Best for brightening, mild texture refinement, and maintaining skin quality between stronger treatments.
A multi-acid blend including salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol, followed by a retinol step. Targets tone, texture, acne-prone skin, congestion, and pigmentation with visible results after a single peel.
Medium-deep peels (TCA-based) and phenol deep peels carry significantly higher recovery demands and risks. Body Balance Medical focuses on the effective, evidence-supported range of superficial-to-light-medium peels.
Two Peels,
One Matched to You
Ashiana determines which peel is appropriate for your skin, your concerns, and your comfort with downtime during your consultation — not based on a quiz or general recommendation.
A superficial peel using a gentle alpha-hydroxy acid formulation. The Illuminize Peel targets the outermost layers of the skin to improve brightness, surface clarity, and overall tone with little to no visible peeling. Well-suited for first-time peel patients and those who need a conservative approach or are maintaining results between stronger treatments.
- Uneven skin tone and surface dullness
- Mild uneven texture
- Early signs of aging
- Sensitive skin types needing a conservative peel
- Pre-event skin preparation
A stronger, corrective peel using a multi-acid blend — salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol — followed by a post-peel retinol step. Salicylic acid (a BHA) penetrates deeper into pores, making the Vitalize Peel particularly effective for acne-prone skin and congestion alongside its correction of tone, pigmentation, and fine lines.
- Uneven pigmentation and sun exposure
- Post-acne marks and discoloration
- Fine lines and early signs of aging
- Congested pores and acne-prone skin
- Uneven texture and surface imperfections
Common Skin Concerns
Peels Can Help
Ashiana will confirm during your consultation whether a peel — and which one — is the right fit. The right peel for a concern depends on your skin type, history, and tolerance, not just the concern itself.
Controlled exfoliation clears the buildup of dead surface cells that flatten skin tone, supporting a more even, refreshed appearance.
Both peels smooth rough, uneven texture by accelerating cell turnover. The Vitalize Peel reaches slightly deeper for more significant texture correction.
Surface sun damage and discoloration respond well to peels — particularly over a series. Peels with melanin-inhibiting components can support more even pigmentation with careful aftercare.
The Vitalize Peel's retinol step targets early fine lines and supports a smoother surface over time by stimulating cell renewal and collagen production.
The salicylic acid in the Vitalize Peel penetrates deeper into pores to address congestion and acne-prone skin, alongside its corrective benefits for tone and texture.
Acne-related discoloration and surface marks can soften over a series of Vitalize Peels as cell turnover improves and the surface renews progressively.
The Treatment Process
A SkinMedica peel appointment at Body Balance Medical typically runs 30–45 minutes from start to finish. Here's what happens from the moment you arrive.

Ashiana reviews your skin type, concerns, current products, medications, sun exposure history, and acne or pigmentation patterns before any treatment begins. If you use retinoids or acids at home, you may be advised to pause them one week before your peel to reduce sensitivity.
The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed and degreased so the peel solution contacts the skin evenly. Protective barriers are placed around sensitive areas — corners of the eyes, lips, and nose — before application begins.
The selected SkinMedica peel solution is applied with controlled technique. Mild tingling, warmth, or a brief stinging sensation is normal and subsides quickly. Ashiana monitors your skin's response and timing throughout to avoid excessive irritation.
You leave with specific aftercare instructions for your peel type — gentle cleanser, moisturizer, a post-peel protectant if appropriate, and daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Sun protection is not optional. Las Vegas UV levels are high, and newly treated skin is more vulnerable to UV damage.
What to Expect
During & After
Downtime depends on the peel. Both peels are manageable — the difference is how much visible skin renewal you'll see in the days after treatment. Results vary by individual and are typically most visible within one to two weeks post-peel.
Minimal downtime. Mild redness or tightness may occur for the first day or two. Light flaking is possible but many patients see little to no visible peeling. Most return to normal activity immediately after treatment.
Visible peeling typically begins on day two or three and lasts five to seven days in most cases, though some patients peel for up to two weeks depending on skin response and adherence to aftercare. Plan for light social downtime — you can carry on as normal, but flaking will be visible.
A series of 3 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart is recommended for most patients. A single peel refreshes the skin; a series allows for progressive, cumulative improvement in tone, texture, and pigmentation without pushing into excessive irritation from a deeper treatment. Individual results vary.

Ashiana Khar
Licensed Advanced Esthetician · Body Balance Medical
Ashiana Khar is Body Balance Medical's Licensed Advanced Esthetician and the provider for all facials and chemical peels at the clinic. Her approach to peels is methodical — she'd rather confirm candidacy carefully and start you at the appropriate strength than push a treatment your skin isn't ready for.
Because peel candidacy, strength, and timing depend on your specific skin type, history, and current routine, Ashiana evaluates every patient in person before treatment. If a peel isn't the right step for you, she'll tell you — and likely point you toward a medical facial or suggest a preparation protocol first.
Peels can also be sequenced with PRF skin rejuvenation and microneedling as part of a coordinated skin-quality plan. Ashiana coordinates timing across treatments so each one can do its job without overloading your skin.

No — and this is one of the most important things to understand about professional peels. Peel selection requires in-person assessment because your skin type, Fitzpatrick classification, pigmentation risk, acne history, current products, medications, and sun exposure history all determine which peel is appropriate. General descriptions of what each peel does are a starting point, not a prescription. Ashiana will evaluate your skin at your consultation and recommend Illuminize, Vitalize, or a different approach entirely — including whether a facial or preparatory skincare protocol should come first.
It depends on the peel. The Illuminize Peel typically involves minimal to no visible peeling — mild redness or tightness for a day or two is common but many patients experience little visible change. The Vitalize Peel works more deeply and usually produces light-to-moderate flaking that begins around day two or three and lasts five to seven days for most patients, though it can extend up to two weeks in some cases. In both cases, diligent sun protection throughout the recovery period is essential — Las Vegas UV levels make this especially important.
A series of three treatments spaced three to four weeks apart is the standard recommendation for most patients. A single peel produces visible improvement, but repeated controlled exfoliation over a series allows the skin to move through multiple cell turnover cycles — producing cumulative improvement in tone, texture, pigmentation, and fine lines without relying on a deeper peel. After the initial series, maintenance frequency is determined by your skin's response and goals.
Most patients describe mild tingling, warmth, or a brief stinging sensation as the peel solution is applied. This typically subsides quickly. Peels are well-tolerated and the appointment is short — under an hour including preparation. Ashiana will walk you through what to expect before she begins and monitors your skin's response throughout the application.
Often, yes — but timing and sequencing matter. Peels pair naturally with medical facials and can be incorporated into a broader plan that includes microneedling or PRF skin rejuvenation. Each treatment has a recovery window, and layering treatments too closely together can overload the skin. Ashiana will build a plan with appropriate spacing so each treatment can perform without interference.
Extremely — especially in Las Vegas. Peeled skin has lost its normal protective surface layer and is significantly more vulnerable to UV damage than unpeeled skin. Inadequate sun protection after a chemical peel can worsen hyperpigmentation, delay healing, and compromise your results. Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is required daily during the recovery window. Ashiana will send you home with specific aftercare instructions including recommended products and sun avoidance guidance based on your peel type.
